An Evening Talk with club founders Ted and Ivy Poole
Wednesday 20th November 2013 – 7.15pm
Central Library – 2nd Floor Reading Room
Founded over 50 years ago in a cellar in Bridge Street the Swindon Folksingers Club has a long history of promoting folk music – playing host to many prominent names in the UK Folk Scene including Ewan McColl and Martyn Carthy – even world famous Paul Simon once asked to perform at the club – come and discover why he reluctantly decided to pull out of the gig!
Ted & Ivy will be talking about the club’s history – how it has been shaped by a back drop of an ever-changing Swindon landscape, their strong Trade Union roots and the club’s desire to foster international friendship and understanding. The evening will also include live folk music interludes.
