Shanta Acharya is an extremely diverse writer and is the author of 10 books, including five volumes of poetry as well as three books on finance. Her latest publication is the novel A World Elsewhere, her first, which was published to critical acclaim earlier this year. Shanta will be discussing and reading extracts from her novel as well as a selection of her poetry. She will also be signing copies of her books which will be on sale after the event.

A World Elsewhere is an extraordinary evocation of Indian social life in the 1960s and 1970s, depicting the life of the Guru family and their daughter, Asha. When she goes to college Asha meets and marries Anand against the wishes of her family – a decision that proves catastrophic, triggering a series of episodes that cast her out of her fold to look for a world elsewhere. A World Elsewhere is a timeless and universal tale of the human spirit discovering itself.

Central Library are proud to present this event in partnership with Poetry Swindon as a
pre-launch to the
Poetry Swindon Festival 2015 which runs from 1st-5th October 2015.
