Who Would Live in a House Like This?

Central Library – 2nd Floor Reading Room, 7.15pm Thursday 5th November 2015

Did you know that Henry Tudor’s grandmother, Margaret Beauchamp, owned Lydiard House or that his granddaughter, Elizabeth I stayed over on August 31, 1592?

If you enjoyed the TV series Wolf Hall adapted from the books of two time Man Booker Prize winning novelist Hilary Mantel then you’ll be fascinated by the story of the St John family who lived at Lydiard House for 500 years. Mad, bad and dangerous to know the St John family remained at the centre of Court life from the Tudors to the Hanovarians.

Frances Bevan, co-founder of the ‘Swindon Heritage Magazine’, takes a look behind the Palladian façade of Lydiard House to reveal the scandalous history of the St John family.

Tickets for the event are £2.50 (£1.50 library members) and are on sale now from the Ground Floor Help Desk at Central Library, as well as all other Swindon Libraries. For further information contact Colin Curtis Tel: 01793 463782.
